no, i don't have fancy programs like PSP8 or PhotoShop, all i have is GIMP. so if you're wondering why my digital art sucks so much, then thats the reason why. :P well, i pretty much just want a rating for my hand-drawn and digitally drawn artwork to see if i've progressed from stick men to manga figures and chibis well... >.> DIGITAL ART:  HAND-DRAWN ART:  don't even dare to rate my photography skillz either xP [no, i do not have a scanner, only a low quality camera] please, no comments that just say this sucks :'( constructive comments help more ^^;; thanks xD;

Hey! Relax! No need to be defensive on the get-go, nobody's criticizing your work. :) It's actually pretty good. The thing with digital art is that it usually comes out flat, unless you're really really familiar / good with the program/s you're using, as well as the quality of your equipment. Nothing like the good ole pencil and paper. I like the sketchiness of your hand-drawn work.

Aaawwwwu, your style is certainly very cute!! I like how spaced apart the girl's eyes are, it makes her look so serene and sweet.
I just came across a handy digital coloring tutorial, and I've been sharing it with like everyone. XD Maybe it could help you, too.
That tutorial demonstrates Photoshop, but you can easily apply those simple techniques with The Gimp as well.

Hey Yukino!
Very cute! Cinnamoroll~ ^^ Like speedy said, don't worry too much! I understand that you're shy and don't want to have your feelings hurt. The internet is a tricky place to share certain things that you care about. Anyway, I'm sure this little nook in the HK forums is a great choice. <3
When you're drawing the human form, stylized or otherwise, there are a few key things you can remember that will help you draw almost exactly what you want to see. In the case of your sketch here, I'll give what I see of those keys that will help you see what you can do to improve, and also carry over into your future artwork:
- The upper arm (humerus) is longer than the forearm (radius & ulna). When drawing the arms, the points at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingertips are typically always parallel. For instance, your subject's left arm is drawn a little longer than the right arm, so if she were to let her hands rest at her sides, those points would not line up parallel.
The body is a naturally asymmetrical creature, bones and muscles and all, but to the naked eye, someone walking down the street would probably stand out immediately if his or her left arm looked much longer than the right! The truth is that everyone's limbs aren't always equal, but the differences are so subtle at a glance that our natural inclination is to consider ourselves balanced, therefore 'normal'. ^^
I hope that little tip proves useful for you~ Great job! Share more of your art sometime. ;D

Ooh! Here is another tutorial that could help you out! This one deals specifically with The Gimp, and describes how to effectively use the Pen Tool!
Using the Pen Tool will help you get crisp, bold lines. It would look great in art works such as the Cinnamorol image you have shared, where the hand-drawn (er, mouse-drawn... whatever) lines look kind of shaky.

i cant see you art :( for some reason it's showing up as <<temporarily hidden>> so i cant see it :( however the gimp is awesome! :) just because its free doesnt mean its not an incredibly powerful program! i dont really have much talent for art personally but when i play with photos and the gimp i usually end up with some pretty awesome looking stuff i made this with the gimp: i know its not great but i'm not a graphics artist or an artist in general, i just had fun :) i also made this with the gimp: and this too: but if you do some googling theres SO much gimp stuff out there and youtube has wicked videos, some really awesome speed gimp stuff which is pretty crazy to see. i'm sure your artwork looks great i just wish i could see it! :/ oh ya if my stuff shows up as temporarily hidden its in the media gallery of http://chazzwozzer.com i did the banners and avatars (not the frog or the cat however) :)
